Can You Rent Two Pickup Trucks in Calgary on the Same Day? Yes — We Run Four Identical Ones
A rental counter can usually find you one pickup. Two identical trucks, same day, same handover, is a different problem — and it's the one that halves the number of trips on a move, a cleanout, or a crew day. What four matching Sierra 1500s let you do, and what they still can't.
A rental counter can usually find you a pickup. Ask for two, on the same day, and the conversation changes: pickups are a category rather than a specific vehicle, so the second one is whatever happens to be on the lot — a different size, a different bed, sometimes nothing at all. You find out at the counter, on the morning you’d budgeted for loading.
The reason it matters isn’t capacity. Two half-tons don’t carry more than one half-ton carries in two trips. What they carry is the trip you don’t have to make — the drive back across the city, the second wait at the scale, the hour of daylight you were counting on.
We run four GMC Sierra 1500 Elevations out of Calgary, spec’d deliberately alike, and more than one is often free on the same dates. That’s the whole point of this post.
Can you rent two pickup trucks at once in Calgary?
Yes, from us — you book two of the four listings for the same dates, and they’re interchangeable by design. Three are 2025 Sierra 1500 Elevations in black, grey and white; the fourth is a 2026 Elevation. Same crew cab, same five seats, same 5.3L V8 with selectable 4WD, same 5-foot-8 box, same hard locking tonneau, same handover.
That sameness is the feature. When two trucks are identical you can load them the same way, strap them the same way, and hand the keys to whichever driver shows up without a briefing. A mixed pair — one full-size, one mid-size with a shorter box — means splitting the load by which truck takes what, and that’s exactly the kind of thinking you don’t want on moving day.
The practical availability question is answered by the listings, not by this page. Each truck has its own calendar and they change daily. If two show open for your dates, book both.
When are two trucks better than one truck twice?
When the return drive costs more than the second rental does — which is most of the time on a job with a deadline, because two trucks leaving together halve the number of trips rather than doubling what you can carry. The three cases where it pays off are a move inside the city, a cleanout heading for the landfill, and a work day split across two sites.
Each one, in turn:
A move inside the city. One truck doing two runs from Bowness to Auburn Bay is an hour and a half of empty driving, plus reloading a tired crew. Two trucks leaving together arrive together, get unloaded by the same people at the same time, and finish. The second truck isn’t buying capacity, it’s buying the afternoon.
A cleanout heading for the landfill. City of Calgary charge items run a $25 flat rate per load under 250 kg, then $113 per tonne past that — and that minimum is billed per load, so two trucks arriving together is two $25 loads rather than one truck making two $25 trips. Same money, half the day. We broke the tipping math down in our post on which Sierra to book for a landfill run, and it’s worth reading before you go, because you’re charged on the weight of the whole load.
A work or trade day with two crews. Two identical trucks means one set of tie-down points, one bed height for loading, and no truck that’s secretly the awkward one. If you’re splitting a crew across two sites, they’re carrying the same kit in the same layout.
Where two trucks don’t help: anything limited by what fits in one box rather than by trips. A single load that’s too tall or too long for a 5-foot-8 box is still too tall or too long when there are two of them.
What can’t you do with two rented pickups?
Tow anything, haul sharp material against a bare bed, or carry a tall load under a closed cover. Those three limits apply to every truck in the fleet no matter how many you book, and none of them are solved by adding a second truck.
- No towing. Turo’s terms prohibit towing with a rented vehicle. This is the most common thing people plan around us, and the answer doesn’t change with a second truck — if you need a trailer moved, that isn’t a job for a rental pickup. If what you actually want is a trailer for a trip, we run one on RVezy with delivery, and we tow it ourselves.
- No bed liner. Our boxes are bare. If you’re loading split wood, broken concrete, fence boards or anything with a sharp edge, put a tarp or moving blankets down first and sweep it out before return. We’d rather say that up front than sort it at handover.
- The tonneau is a hard cover, not a soft roll-up. It locks, which is genuinely useful for leaving tools in the bed, but a tall load means running with it open. Plan for the load to be either under the cover or out in the weather.
How do you actually book two trucks from us?
Book each listing separately for the same dates — they’re four independent vehicles, so there’s no combined booking, and there’s no discount for taking two. What you get instead is certainty about what shows up.
One booking mechanic worth knowing: Turo doesn’t open the message thread until a trip is booked, so there’s no way to ask us about a second truck beforehand. Put your dates and what you’re hauling in the trip notes when you book, and we’ll sort the handover from there — including staging both trucks at the same pickup point so you’re not driving across the city to collect the second one.
Every truck comes the same way: winter tires from September, the Parks Canada Discovery Pass already on the mirror, a full-to-full fuel policy, and a daily distance allowance in the listing rather than a per-kilometre meter running while you work. If you want the single-truck price comparison against U-Haul and the airport counters, we costed that out separately.
